In the evenings, the residents participate in outside events, the local young people’s recovery community, 12-Step meetings, and fun group activities. Learning to be self-sufficient is a key component of any effective sober living. However, it is important to do this step-by-step while helping people safely practice new skills. Additionally, a strong peer community and staff keep them accountable without drugs or alcohol. They can also help them focus on their mental health and overall well-being. The Harrison Wagner Scholarship Fund was created by Jack Wagner and Kristina Wagner in honor of their son Harrison Wagner. Harrison was a bright, exuberant young man whose smile lit up any room he was in. He has left behind many men and family members who loved him deeply. Sober living homes–also referred to as halfway houses–such as ours in Los Angeles are residential homes that provide a drug and alcohol-free environment for people in early recovery. Sober living homes provide the necessary support, encouragement, and safety helpful for recovery. Sober living houses are not halfway houses, and are also called “transitional living” or “recovery residence programs.” We are different from traditional sober living due to our approach and services. We work to provide continuing care after intensive treatment programs.

For those coming from out of town, Los Angeles offers a central location easily reached by car, plane, bus, and train. To add, he wanted to transform their lifestyles and teach them life skills necessary to succeed.

My first experience with New LIfe Warehouse was serving as a volunteer to stage furniture for new clients. The mission is clear, the logistics are solid, and the impact is so tangible. Merging my passion for decorating with my heart for service felt like a dream come true!

About Our Young Men’s Sober Living in Los Angeles, CA

We put mental health first and have phenomenal aftercare programming, as well as an amazing clinical wrap-around component providing individual and group therapy, health and wellness education, and more. Unlike other rehab aftercare centers and sober living homes, New Life Hosue uses a peer-grouping method that helps those in recovery connect with individuals going through the same life experiences. Peer grouping means creating sober living houses geared towards specific age groups so the young men can better relate with one another.

We pickup furniture donations and accept drop-offs at our warehouse. We receive referrals from social workers who have identified familes suffering from furniture poverty. We contact the clients directly and listen to their stories and determine exactly what they need to help them start over. We then personally deliver the furniture to their homes and help set all of the items up, from rugs to pictures on the wall. It is a gift to be able to share God’s blessing with those in need. The managers and directors spend a great deal of time with each house member, checking in with them, discussing their goals, fears, and decisions.

I heard about New Life Warehouse from a friend who knew I was looking for a place to do some volunteer work. The first time I went there, I fell in love with Stephanie, her heart for the hurting and her mission to help those in Tampa Bay. No one should be sleeping on the floor and at New Life Warehouse we will continue to do our best to see that become a reality. This ministry is more than just supplying essentials to those in need, it is about sharing Jesus and giving them hope. Lives are being transformed; not just the families we serve but also every one of us who volunteer. I was drawn to New Life Warehouse because it meets people at a critical point in their journey—with compassion, dignity, and practical help.

Thus, someone is more likely to avoid relapse the longer they stay in a halfway house. Sober living is an important part of the continuum of care when someone is overcoming substance use struggles. This also applies when someone is learning to re-integrate into life, and looking to build a strong community. The New Life approach to how sober living houses work is dramatically different from most for a number of reasons.

Insurance companies rarely pay for halfway houses or any other type of sober living environment. California does not offer licensed certification for halfway houses, and in turn, insurance contracts are not able to be obtained by them. If needed, many halfway houses will work with you to set up a payment plan that is advantageous for both parties. All of the residents will have breakfast with one another, and begin their day with a lot of support.

Once house members reach the vocational phase, they’ll go to work as scheduled. They are able to take advantage of the accountability the program provides. Additionally, the staff is aware of all comings and goings, and available to assist with any difficult situations that arise.

The early stages of recovery can be emotionally and physically challenging. Deciding to get sober, and stay sober, is no easy feat, thus there will be bad days. A recovery community provides the necessary encouragement and support for an individual to overcome challenges that may arise during this time.

Holistic activities such as yoga, meditation, massage therapy, art, and music therapy may be available. Lastly, process groups and opportunities for peer accountability within the house may be available. We specialize in helping young men often classified as “failure to launch“, providing them with the necessary toolset to go out into the world successfully, and refocus the direction of their lives. Addressing much more than just drug abuse or alcohol addiction, New Life House helps young men launch. Generally, when someone is looking to join a sober living home it is because they or their family want a supportive or transitional environment. Here, they can safely acquire the skills they will need to live independently.

We assist foster families, resettled refugee families, domestic violence or trafficking victims, aged out teens, veterans, and others who have lost everything and are re-starting their lives.
